Overview

Tasked with creating a cover design for NAFFS (National Association of Flavors & Food-Ingredient Systems) yearly Flavor and Ingredients Industry Report.

Challenge

Create a visually engaging cover design for the report while ensuring I accurately represent food trends from the past year.

Approach

When assigned this project, I began by researching the food trends from the past year. One common aspect that I found while observing multiple sources was the increased desire for locally grown and fresh fruits. I decided that, due to the high demand, I would focus my cover design on fruits such as strawberries, bananas, and oranges. Rather than depicting the fruits in their photographic form, I experimented with layout and typography to create a more visually engaging, colorful design. I used blending modes and Photoshop effects to achieve a risography-style illustration effect.

Outcome

In the end, I created a cover that reflected the current food trends that highlighted the required text & logos. I successfully experimented with texture, shape, and effects to create a digital design with a traditional flair. This cover design, while not selected as the final product, taught me more about experimenting with typography and letting it play off the other elements of a design.
